Dermal fillers are injectable treatments containing hyaluronic acid or other biocompatible materials. They work by adding volume beneath the skin’s surface, smoothing wrinkles, and enhancing facial contours. Hyaluronic acid fillers also attract and retain moisture to help maintain a more youthful appearance.
Most patients report only mild discomfort during the injection process. Many dermal fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to enhance comfort. You may feel a slight stinging or pinching sensation, but it’s typically easy to tolerate.
The duration of results varies depending on the product used and individual factors. Generally, results last from six months to two years, with some products providing longer-lasting effects. Regular maintenance treatments can extend results.
Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness at injection site. These effects usually resolve within a few days to a week. More severe complications are rare but can include infection or allergic reactions. However, as long as a qualified, experienced practitioner does the procedure, risks will stay minimal.
Dermal filler treatments typically have minimal to no downtime. You can return to your daily activities immediately after the procedure. However, it’s advisable to avoid intense physical activity and excess sun exposure for a short period afterward as advised by your provider.
